Very strong core mechanic
Althought I can't fight the feeling that, this game lack a few tweak to make it perfect. It fell a bit too random, the game should be more about the player's ability to make quick and meaningfull decision. Here are some suggestions to improve this.
1. Make sure the shrines don't appear if the life spane isn't below 50%, then increase the appearance rate as the lifespawn goes down.
2. Make a different icon for Dragon/boss encounter.
3. Add a way to skip phase, if I can't buy an item it should not be there for 5 seconds.
4. Why not make it so that every day is a new item instead of forcing the player to buy them all ?
5. Make the appearance change when buying armor and weapon.
6. Make sure to not have sequence like; elixir, armor, elixir,elixir. Or maybe simply have some small amount of money for each each.
7. Remove/Fix the delay between event in current window and enabling the click action.
8. why not a key, and treasur chest mechanic, find a key decide to to use it on a chest or keep it for ater.
9. Equipment is nearly unreable, ther is no reason to hide the titles.
10. What about when low on life span or hp, character's attack increase and/or speed double?

If think many people here are a little simplistic or just too much passionate for eating living beings.
To start off, there is no relation between being gay and not eating meat (or even abusing children by the way). Eating being a need doesn't justify the atrocity present in slaughter houses, heck it was not a good reason to eat my lunch in class at highschool according to my math teacher. Their is also an over-production and over consumtion of meat meaning that people produce more meat than the people will buy and eat even when they are already eating to much meat to begin with. There is a difference between a lion who eat a wild free zebra and a human who torture and enslave other animals. By the way Newground's moto is "everything by everyone" so it does belong here anyone arguing against this is against democracy and freedom of speech and should go be a dictator on its own island/country/website.
On the other hand, I think peta's view is a little extreme and this game was a little over the top. People do need to eat and a balance diet should contain a portion of meat. It is possible to eat meat without being a monster. I think also that more people would associate with a more ethical view of meat raising if peta would not make veggan look like crazy marginals.
In the end a middle ground should be found. People should eat less meat, people should produce less meat and finally the meat should be raise it in a more natural violence free manner. So we don't have to choose between tortured cow or turkey or being a veggan, personnaly I don't require that my meat should be torture to death and I think I'm not the only one.
not bad, but glitchy
Your code should check if the ground is being hit while jump attacking. It should play the attacking mc completly one time per key press(and not pause at the last frame when the key is not release). You should also make a hit area for the attack since no one kill anyone with his back while striking foward. And your caracter can't attack while moving. Well any other feature from bust a move would make the sequel better. Here is a list: multiplayer against bot or human (just switch controls from mouse to arrows and numbers), chain reaction, puzzle mode, story mode, more animation, avatars(pre-made or customizable), online multiplayer like blockles (on NG) would be asome, achievement goals and rewards. All the standar stuff.

Just one question
Have you been to the ''learn flash'' section on NG and still thought what you did would be relevant? There are no effort in this flash and even less good and efficient graphic. This flash is poor, teach nothing new and only waste space on NG server's.

For esthetic purpose you should had a piece of code that hide the hand when you pass over the character. Overall good tut.

but there is only one question on my mind, at the end of the bottle explosion movie clip you insert a blank keyframe with the action stop(); set on it, so the bottle mc is still there would it not be better if you add a action script that actually take off the movie clip?
By the way, how could I use Key.isdown in a fighting gamere where I could crouch and then be able to make a low kick?
